Nutrition & Food Science Department Mission
Statement
The Nutrition & Food Science Department offers
curricula and professional development for students
pursuing careers as nutritionists, dietitians, food
scientists, and foodservice managers. Positions
occur in community settings, educational
institutions, hospitals, nutrition and food research
laboratories, foodservice establishments, government
agencies, and business and industry.
The department's programs emphasize theory as well
as the application of theoretical knowledge. This is
accomplished through research in the community as
well as in the laboratory. Involvement in
professional supervised practice and community
activities strengthens the application of research
theories. Faculty research is encouraged to support
teaching and professional development.
Problem that Nutrihand solved:
Developed a portal
with easy to use tools to deliver personalized meal
plans, to learn about nutrition, and to enhance
education quality.

About Pamela A. Huerta,
Registered Dietitian
Over 12 years of strong and diverse experience in
public programs, nutrition counseling and weight
loss design for men, women, and children, including:
Nutrition Counseling; Classroom Instruction; New
Course Development; Public Presentations;
Administration Training and Supervision. Perform
high-risk assessments of diabetes, obesity, anemia
of both children and adults. Create instruction
curriculum and instruction for nutrition classes and
lifestyle change seminars.
